Grease traps and drains in New York City

A slow pot sink is often the under-sink trap or the line to it. Pumping a large outdoor interceptor is a different job from snaking a floor drain.

Typical issues

  • A pot sink that drains slowly after service is commonly a full under-sink interceptor or a grease-lined pipe.
  • A floor drain that burps near the dish pit can be the same line. Say which fixtures are slow.
  • A smell only at the sink, with a normal floor drain, points at the trap seal or the interceptor lid.
  • An outdoor interceptor that is on a pumping contract should not be posted as a snake job.
  • Do not use a chemical drain opener in a grease line and then ask a tech to snake it.
